Blacksmithing weapons (also known as "melee weapons"), are close ranged weapons produced by the Blacksmithing discipline. They represent a large majority of the weaponry used in combat.

Combat Attributes

Each weapon has unique combat attributes. These are values that represent the weapon's combat performance. Weapons usually have all of the attributes, although with different values.

Combat Attributes on Weapons

Damage
The amount of health taken from the enemy on a successful hit.
Stat attackcost.png
Attack Cost
The amount of stamina consumed when you swing the weapon.
Stat reusetime.png
Reuse Speed

Stat blockpercent.png
Block Percent
The amount of damage that the weapon lets through on a perfect block.
(Lower is better - less damage goes through to your health pool.)
Stat blockcost.png
Block Cost
The amount of stamina consumed when you block with the weapon.
Stat blocktime.png
Block Time
The time your block is valid for.
Blocking only last for a while, after which you must block again for you to block any damage.

Weapon Balancing

Unlike in most games, weapons in Minecraft Frontiers are balanced to be equally viable in combat. There is no "best" weapon. Instead, advanced weapons offer specific layouts of combat attributes, favouring certain playstyles over others.

Weapon Size

A size is one of the main factors impacting combat attributes. Larger weapons tend to have higher damage, but their attacks drain more stamina and take longer to recharge. These disadvantages can be partially compensated by weight optimisation - a technique trying to reduce a weapon's weight, while maintaining its damage capabilities. On the other hand, small weapons require less stamina to use and their attacks may be used much more often. Similarly, it may be a good idea to compensate for this through sharpening.

Weapon Type

The type of a weapon (e.g. sword / axe) determines how specialised a weapon is. Swords are the most commonly used weapons, with attributes balanced between attacking and blocking. This means they are extremely versatile and favour experienced warriors. Axes severly lack blocking capabilities, but make up for it in damage. They are generally useful when fighting in a group, where the axe wielder can hide behind the blocks of their allies.

Weapon Material

The material of a weapon determines the type of special damage a weapon does. Certain materials may be stronger against certain monsters. In the same way, specific armor sets may protect the wearer better against specific weapon materials.

  • Wood: The most basic of materials. Very easy to obtain. Offers poor attributes overall.
  • Iron: Commonly used material. Iron weapons are evenly balanced, dealing good damage to all sorts of monsters.
