As news of the discoveries reached Pertentus in Patraeia, he felt that it was the gods' way of speaking to him. He often claimed that the caves held the rumored powers of the Anteans, and was determined to discover if it was true. All of Patraeia supported it, many of the citizens even volunteered to be apart of the expeditions. As a result, Pertentus invested much of his own personal wealth, as well as the wealth of Elpida in order to fund such an adventure. He did not wish to go, although he did send many of Patraeia's philosophers in case there were to be any Antean ruins within the depths of the caves. For months, Pertentus waited in desperation, hoping that the men he had sent would discover any relic in which he could glorify as an act of the Gods, a sign that he is closer to the truth. There is little known as to why Senator Pertentus had declared the expeditions as a failure, and ordered for the return of the explorers. Some say that he had lost hope in his expeditions, others say he had lost more money than he had. Regardless, it was something that the people of Patraeia did not anticipate, nor expect from their leader.
