As the years drew on, more Patraeian blood had been spilt in the name of the Emperor. His popularity began to diminish as mothers mourned their husbands and sons, eventually rising up into riots. Rumors circulated around for his demise to come soon, as well as a coming resistance to his claim of Patraeia. The Emperor could do little, since nearly every day he was plagued by yet another mob of his people, all crying in sorrow and anger from his actions. Eventually, such a day took place where even Claudius' own guard had turned on him. He was no longer safe from Patraeia, and was assassinated by his cohorts.
