Description

The Executive Magistrate acts as an iron fist to the bandits and thieves which may try to sneak their way into Elpida. They also act to single out and eliminate underground criminal activity, by whatever means necessary. They must be an excellent commander and chief, as well as an amazing warrior to prove their strength. They not only reflect on Elpida’s strength, but their role is also immensely culturally significant, as their role reflects that of Legaros, God protector and warrior of the aether.

History

Historically, the role of the Executive Magistrate has been one coated in the blood of massacres. While they take the role of the protector, in dark times they have been used as a tool to destroy innocent civilians for profit. Due to this, the Executive Magistrate is lowly regarded by minority groups (such as gypsies) and viewed as an oppressive tool of state. An Executive Magistrate is expected to gain Legaros’ blessing in order to successfully protect Elpida. The Senate pays special close attention to the Executive Magistrate due to their dangerous power, and the people both fear and respect them.

Responsibilities

The Executive Magistrate’s most notable job is its role in commanding the militia, although it does much more than that in times of peace. The Executive Magistrate works closely with many factions, funding explorations of the Explorers' Guild in return for goods, learning important information from the Taverns' Guild, attempting to destroy corrupt organised crime groups such as The Salvian Family and working closely with the Warriors' Guild to recruit, train, and lead the townguard. They are also hold fights in the city arena and are expected to build hype and conversation around these events. They can even carry out large-scale attacks depending on the event. Due to the religious significance of the Executive Magistrate, and the connections to Legaros, they are expected to work closely with the Minister of Trade to ensure the religious roots of Elpida are funded and kept. Other than this, they work as the executor of the law and the chief judge when high-profile lawful issues are brought to their attention.

Budget

The magistrate budget pulls in money from different places, and massively grows or drops depending on the current situation. In war the budget is prioritized but probably strained, but in peace it is likely relatively small. It receives money from exploration trips which it funds (working with the Explorer’s Guild), holding fights in the city arena, as well as legal fines. In turn, the budget is mainly spent on armor and weaponry.

Housing

The Executive Magistrate is granted a small but fine estate in the High Court; you enter the doorway into a beautifully crafted and designed kitchen and dining space, passing a small library space as well as storage before reaching the master bedroom. Although not the biggest or grandest of the estates, it symbolises the solidity of their role and the protection is grants Elpida. The housing quarters look out onto the entrance of Elpida, in what used to be an open window but had to be protected by a thick grate due to bandits.
