She was named “the Angel”, and the tale was told that she was a fallen angel from the heavens. People came from far and wide to meet the fair maiden, and the price to marry her became higher and higher every year. At the age of 12, a rich aristocratic family visited and wanted to adopt her, as they couldn’t have children of their own. She was sold to them for a small fortune, and she became Lady Ophelia Helios. She was taken to every ball and dressed up more like a doll than a daughter. She was taught all the heirs and graces of being a lady, but she never grew accustomed to the lifestyle. Finally, when she became of age, and was worth 18 years of growth and beauty, her adoptive parents wanted her to marry into another rich family and continue the family line. The marriage was arranged and set, but when Ophelia met her betrothed she realised that he was an abusive, horrible man almost double her age. In all her life, Ophelia had never complained, but she complained now, and refused to marry him. The family turned sour, calling her ungrateful and spoilt. Her parents beat her with a stick until she finally accepted the proposal, and then they left her in a pool of her own blood. Bloody and broken, she wept, her red, raw hands clasped together in agony, and she prayed to whatever Gods would listen. And then she collapsed, waking the next day, which was meant to be her wedding. Her betrothed was found dead in his bed, struck by a sudden heart attack in the dead of night. Ophelia knew that her prayers had been answered, and she thanked the Gods for their kindness, praying for her adoptive parent’s deaths too. Within that same year her adoptive parents soon also fell to illness, and she inherited the enormous estate and fortune. She sold every item she owned, and donated every penny, save for enough to buy her passage to Elpida, to a nearby temple of Phaedron to thank him for his cloak of death. In return for her patronage they gave her a silver necklace with a ruby encrusted skull hanging from the centre. She left for Elpida, she wanted a new life, one in which she didn’t owe anybody, one in which she was truly herself. The only item she kept from her past life was the necklace the temple gave her, which she named ‘Angel’s skull'. In her eyes, it let her be on equal terms with Phaedron, she didn’t owe him anything because of the necklace. So while still deeply respecting Phaedron, she turned her worship to Aestheria in her new life, writing poetry and painting in her image. She completely redressed herself in Aestheria's image; covered in gold and silver piercings of the moon which hang from her nose, ears, and cheeks. The piercings look delicate yet powerful, and give shimmer and chime with every turn of her head.
