Full Name: Desmynd Lorel Nickname(s): Des Gender: Male Age: 32 Date of birth: March 27th, 2385S (Not sure on date) Place of birth: Mainland Current residence: Frostfall Isles Job: Daytime Speculative Philanthropist, Nighttime Stealthy Thief Interests and hobbies: Money, Investments, Profits, Efficiency, and the well being of mankind. Des enjoys learning about the makeup of economics in a city and will spend time to sufficiently study obscure patterns and practices of business owners and merchants in any area he places interest in. Religious Belief: Metas and Phaedron (Not fervent belief for either, more symbolic) Signature Item (s): Lucky Coin (one side Metas, one side Phaedron), Skeleton Key nicknamed, "Promising Investment" // Narration "There are times where Des could sometimes regret some chances he's taken. but this was not one of those times. Adeptly he worked P.I. around the heavy padlock, locking each chamber in place and popping open the mechanism before it had the chance to resist. Placing the lock aside, he became aware of the possibility that the creak of this particular heavy and obtuse wooden door could wake up the entire block if it was left unabated. Surely the owner of this fine establishment wouldn't take kindly to such an intrusion. Earlier that day, he witnessed the owner go to fetch a choice piece of armor to present from this vault, and he could still remember the piercing headache. Being a man who always researches the nature of his competition, Des happened to come prepared with a handy can of grease. Opening the door only slightly, slightly enough to bare a peak at the door's hinges, he began to meticulously squirt them with grease from the can. After spending quite a bit more time making sure each hinge was perforated sufficiently than he would have liked, Des decided it was the moment of truth. Gripping and lifting the handle using all the strength he had, he slowly walked it inward and was rewarded with a relatively quiet creak until it sat ajar enough for him to slip in. A torch hung on the wall displaying the armorer's chief most prized projects. Quite a few of them were helmets and gloves displaying beautiful diamonds patterned in a half sun around the forehead and the wrists respectively. No profit would come from stealing these however, especially since the owner was attempting to sell them for years now at an absurdly inflated price. Des was here for one thing and one thing only--the Ledger. It was because, without this ledger, the owner of this particular armory would suddenly and inexplicably find himself in trouble with the city guard if they were perchance tipped off anonymously about convenient illegal dealings. This place would certainly go out of business and the blacksmith that Des financially invested in would suddenly be getting much more attention and profits. After surveying the room twice over, Des found the Ledger he was looking for. Tucking it under his tunic into a hidden pocket, he replaced the security guarding the room and vanished onto the rooftops into the starlit night." // Background Desmynd Lorel is, in his own opinion, an extremely intelligent investor. Using the wealth he's accumulated throughout the years, he finds relatively small, but promising establishments and provides monetary support. In return, he would receive a percentage of the profits that the business would make from then on. His public image is kept almost too pristine after his constant donations to charities. And the charities who don't receive his "donations" tend to recess into difficult economic times. At night, Des would go out to personally see his investments flourish and assist them if they do not. When asked at parties about how he seems to accumulate so much financial success, his response is almost always, "I have a keen eye for Promising Investments." After establishing a fortune pulling strings on businesses in the mainland, things began to get tough in the city where Des established his headquarters. Bandits and gangs began to cause trouble and the city guard was notoriously corrupt (this Des can attest to with first hand experience). Even with his sense of sniffing out Profitable Investments, the businesses that Des did invest in were experiencing troubles due to these attacks. Even though Des ensured that the business had proper security, the constant pressure of other third-party thieves and occasional mismanagement by the owners' parts made the investments less than enticing. Hearing about the fortune being made over in Elpida and the misfortune Des was having in his current residence, it was simple to believe that he would liquidate his assets and move to start somewhere more promising. // Origin Story Desmynd Lorel was born on a farm in a small (nameless or named, doesn't matter) village on the mainland. The town was self-sufficient and it seemed to attract a diverse assortment of specialists from time to time. Des' parents were honest farmers and were content with the honest lifestyle. The story begins with Desmynd's other brother RIki. Unlike Desmynd, Riki grew up extremely discontent with honest farm work. As a result of constant friction between him and his parents, RIki began to search for friends of the unsavory sort in an attempt to make his life more exciting. Eventually he became a thief, or what he liked to call an "opportunist." In an early point in his career, his parents found out and immediately disowned and barred him from returning home ever again. Des on the other hand was awed by riches Riki would secretly show him and soon progressed to idolizing his older brother. Time and time again, Riki would visit home in the night and talk to his brother about all the wondrous things he's seen and stolen from the wealthy in nearby city. He would talk about the floors he's walked on being made of solid gold and about how he tried to scrape off shavings before he realized that the others were waiting impatiently for him to continue on. And he would talk about the intricate locks he's had to pick through to get into storerooms and safes. Each story would leave Des in a dreamy trance, imagining vivid fantasy in a way that only a teenage boy could. One night Riki arrived with gifts for Des. One was a gold coin, easily a fortune for a farmer, plated on one side with the image of Midas and plated on the other with an image of Phaedron. "We got this coin," Riki explained, "on the last scouting mission we did of the one of the wealthiest merchants in the city. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I do know one thing: it's made from solid gold. Keep it Des; keep it for good luck. After this next job, I don't know if I'll be able to come visit you again for a long time." After a long emotional embrace, Riki started back out the window when he turned around and said, "Take this too. It's a copy of my skeleton key. Maybe some day it'll be useful." And with a quick pat on the head, he took off into the night. Des was devastated when he heard the announcement a few days later. Several thieves were caught breaking into a mansion the day before and were promptly executed on the spot. "The city guards relish in victory and vow to continue to protect and serve." It was during the course of that day in which Des decided he would honor his brother's life by following in his footsteps. He ran away that very night with the coin and the skeleton key in a hidden bag close to his heart.
Lemmie know if I have to add anything more directly descriptive. I feel like he narrative for when he first started his career would be a good write, but at that time his personality wouldn't have been fully developed. That;s why I went with a more current type of story.
I would suggest writing a paragraph on why you are travelling to Elpida/why you want to go there. Otherwise, that's a very nice story for you character. Well done.
