Jackson Conrad Slater grew up in a small village far from Patraeia’s capital. His family was in the Media class, with his father working as the tows local blacksmith and his mother being a weaver. Jackson’s parents, probably because he was an only child, often tried to push their careers onto him with little success. Due to the continuous lack of success in both blacksmithing and weaving, Jackson, at the age of 16, deviated from his parents wishes. Instead of continuing to pursue, or picking up another craft, he decided to go into mercenary work. After completing a few jobs on his own, a local “guild” took him under their wing. The so-called guild was simply a group of the stronger and more combat-oriented folks from around the area looking for work better suited for them. Jackson quickly felt at home with them, and after telling his parents he planned to leave, received two blades from his father, one for carving and the other for combat. He found himself quickly becoming a favorite in the local area for dealing with drunks and petty thieves. This graduated to dealing with criminals, corrupt business owners, and even sometimes local politicians that thought they were above the law. While he certainly wasn’t an assassin, he was good at what he did, and he quickly found help in the patronage of Phaedron. This continued for a few years until he was offered a job that required the harming of children. Fearing the reputation he had created for himself and the lack of morals he had come to adopt, Jackson decided that he needed a clean slate. Working a last job or two to gain the money he needed, he planned to set off for the island of Elpida. He found new sanctuary in the worship of Marventa, though he couldn’t shake off his loyalty to Phaedron completely. He sat on the ship, excited to begin his journey into a new life in Elpida, ready for what was to come his way.
