She did her best to raise Aewolf and his twin brother Caspian, but one can only do so much on so little pay. The twins were 14 when their mother died. Influenza had taken their small town for the winter, and Priscilla was one of many. Mourning his mother's death, he and his brother had no more reason to stay in the slum they called a home. They left for the coast, to become deckhands. They were granted lodging and pay for their muscles: loading and unloading cargo. They picked up on a few things, but not enough to call them skilled by any means. At the age of 17, when his ship was ashore, he and his mates were spending time in a tavern doing what sailors do, when Aewolf saw the most angelic figure he had ever seen. Her skin so soft, her eyes more blue than the richest ocean, and her long, blonde hair cascading down her face and body like a waterfall. Isabella. Ah, that was her name. The most beautiful thing in the entire world. Now, Wolf was a handsome young man, with a muscular build and rugged sandy-blonde hair. He knew he had to speak with her. Gathering enough courage, he began a conversation with this radiant girl, and the two hit it off quickly. Making a bold decision, Wolf elected to not return with his brother and crew out to sea. He would stay in that little coastal town with this new found beauty. They began a courtship and shortly fell madly in love. Bella was a bard, but born to a high born family. This did not stop their love from blooming, but Wolf did not feel worthy of her love. He would leave Isabella in search of wealth, swearing a vow that he would return when he was worthy of her love. Seeing him off, Bella gave him her handkerchief, telling him to make sure he brought it back. A sad and sorrowful goodbye was had, and the two parted ways. He returned to what he knew: loading and unloading cargo. He joined a crew of merchants, them claiming he too would be wearing their fine silks before long. Or so he thought. They enslaved Wolf, along with others. They forced them to do bidding by a whip, or face the consequences, one of which is responsible for the notable scar below Wolf's eye. Six years he was with that vile crew. But as he slaved, he became stronger, and the masters weaker. His resolve for Bella never wavered. One night when the merchants were sufficiently drunk and docked in port, he was able to overpower one of the scum, taking the man's purse and leaving in return a broken jaw. And he ran, as though a stampede was behind him. Laying low for a few days and using the stolen funds, he was able to buy passage to Elpida. The entire journey to the island, Wolf would dream of his beautiful coastal girl, praying to the Gods he would find the wealth on this place to keep his vow and return. Not having a particular skill set can have its perks: You can try anything and see what sticks. Just as the swaying ship lands at the dock of Elpida, our story begins...
