His family was rich due to his fathers skill as a merchant but he was not a spoiled child. His parents would gift him nothing that he didn't work for. He learned reading, writing and mathematics from a private mentor his father could afford. Ivanov grew up as the one who would one day inherit his fathers business. His father would try to teach him the tricks of the trade but Ivanov had no real interests in traveling and selling all kinds of goods. He wanted to make these goods. As Ivanov and his mother one day passed a blacksmith, Ivanov was instantly hooked by the masterful craftsmanship and beautiful metalworks. He knew that this was what he truly wanted. Even though they where not happy, his parents allowed Ivanov to learn from this blacksmith. Oh what a wonderful future it could have been. But an old friend of his father betrayed him and ruined the reputation of the family van Luxbrug by accusing his Ivanov's father of dealing on the black market.
