Story Paragraphs: Cal was born into a relatively ordinary home, raised mainly by his mother, as father was out most days working to support the family in the nearby asclepieion. Through their fathers support, the family hired a tutor to teach Cal basic skills in a variety of professions like guarding, farming and craftsmanship, as they believed in openness for the future. During this training, Cal realised their love for success and accomplishment. They were taught to do their best, and take failures as an opportunity to improve. In days the tutor could not be there, Cal would train alone, or if unable to, developed a habit of creating simple poetry to show to townsfolk and friends. In his teen years, Cal was told by his father to leave their home and travel as far as possible, as an outbreak of tuberculosis had struck their town, and his wife had been afflicted. When asked why he couldn't follow, Cal's father reminded him of the vow he made to treat and protect his wife, to the death. Heartbroken, Cal packed his few possessions and fled, stocking up along the way, he found along the way that a local merchant had been packing up on the road, and offered to help. The merchant, Euclid, was planning on travelling to Elpida to escape from their rugged street life. He told Cal of his dream to escape the corruption and plague of this "homeland" that had rejected him. He spoke of being beat into the mud and ridiculed as 'Infimus' Cal was shocked hearing of this kind of living, after living in a peaceful home with little to no worries, hearing this was only more reason to leave. Cal also saw writing potential and took inspiration from the merchant's story, asking to tag along for his journey to try to better this life of misery he'd lead. The merchant gladly accepted, and spoke with Cal the whole journey down to the docks. They boarded the next possible ship to begin their new life, hopefully free from the disease of their hometown.
