Story Paragraphs: Delecos, son of fisherman Deleco and his wife Maria. Grew up on the water with his parents fishing for a living in a trading village on the sea. Their boat 'The Maria', named after Delecos' mother as a wedding gift from his father years before, acted as the source of wealth for the family. As a delicacy, certain varieties of fish could be sold for premiums to the wealthy, hence bringing above average yearly income to the household. Delecos learnt sailing, fishing, and commerce from his parents early on in development, as well as reading, writing, and numeracy. Faith in the gods, especially Marventa as a guide to sailors, inspired Delecos' morality and uprightness. One evening, awoken by shouting and bells, Delecos learnt of his family's vessel burning on the docks. His parents, who had attempted to stop the blaze, burnt to death in their feeble attempt. In the following days, Delecos, through hearsay and rumours, discovered the culprit as having been the Montari's, a rival fishing company aiming to monopolize the fishing market in the town who had had their sights on greater influence for years. Rage and vengeance overtook the boy's mind, his light humoured and happy go lucky demeanor washed away by the sins of the world. Swearing vengeance upon the Montari family, Delecos Zandarus vowed to eradicate that family of felons or die trying. He liquidated his family's assets. As a thief and a criminal from this day forward, he acted under the inspiration of the god Phaedron. He didn't exist legally, no trace of his family's history having remained other than the purse of gold he kept on his person. For food, he'd sit upon buildings and steal bags of food from market stalls using his deceased Father's fishing rod as well as salt water fish from the ocean. His talent with the item, having been developed and grown over his childhood, kept him well fed and saved money. One Friday evening, Delecos witnessed Arthur Montari, the patriarch of the Montari family, and his son Darius hobbling out of a pub. His rage reignited, Delecos ran towards the two and stabbed the sharpened end of his fishing rod through the neck of Darius Montari, causing him to bleed to death. Delayed by liquor circulating throughout his bloodstream, Arthur Montari now jumped back startled. "Who are you, what have you done to my son!" he yelled frantically. Upon replying with his surname, Arthur Montari began to turn to escape Delecos Zandarus' wrath. With a flick of his fishing rod, Delecos hooked Arthur's belt and pulled his to the ground. With fear in his eyes, Arthur Montari plead for his life, offering money and land to Delecos. Forcing the man's head onto the ground with the sole of his boot, Delecos thanked Phaedron for this chance at redemption before releasing the pressure on Arthur's skull and then quickly slamming his heel onto Arthur's forehead. He died immediately. Having alerted authorities, Delecos fled into the shadows. His rage subsided, Delecos Zandarus decided to live on the off-side of the law to protect the everyday man from the people the law refused to punish. He threw away his first name, embodying the memory of his family under the alias of Zandarus. Deciding to begin a life anew under this new philosophy, Zandarus purchased a ticket to Elpida with the some of the money he had remaining from having sold his family's assets.
