Background: Taiga Eporslè was born on the 27th of October 2386S, in a quiet low market in Patraeia. He lived an atheist life with kind loving parents who always tried to do the best for him with the little money they had. Taiga’s father was a carpenter but hardly got any customers so their profit was bad, albeit the mother being a teacher in a poor school near their house. A couple years later when Taiga was 13 a rumour about thieves in the village went around and the whole village was thrown into fear; locked doors and every single person in the house after 10 pm. Fortunately, Taiga’s father had been able to barricade the wall with his spare wood, so they wouldn’t lose the things they owned. Later that night, Taiga could hear shuffling around in his house. He assumed it was his father or mother, just checking on things or going to the bathroom, but then a large noise sounded and he heard muffled cursing from unfamiliar voices. Taiga crept slowly out of bed and walked silently down the hallway to his parents’ bedroom. The same thoughts continually repeating itself in his mind, “How did they get in? Who are they? What do they want?” His parent’s bedroom was only a couple metres away, and strangely enough, the door was closed. Taiga’s father and mother usually slept with the door open. Then, a funny thought crossed his mind. “What if, Mum and Dad were dead?” He peered cautiously into the bedroom and screamed at the sight he saw. His mother’s body lying limp on the side of a wall, gore spilling through the wounds in her chest. Taiga’s Dad, face down on the bed, a large serrated knife in his head, blood staining the beddings. The eerie moonlight illuminating the room, as if a spotlight had appeared on the corpses. The thieves in his house shouted and cursed and ran towards Taiga. Taiga screamed and turned around. A large formidable figure manifested in front of his vision and an emotion of sheer terror aroused in Taiga’s brain. Suddenly, adrenaline kicked in and Taiga scrambled backwards into his parent’s bedroom. The figure, now only a metre away, grabbed at Taiga but only just missed as Taiga leapt up and onto the bed. Taiga looked around at possible weapons, and saw the knife in his father’s head. He swore to avenge his father’s death and kill the person who had killed his parents with the same weapon they had used. Taiga tore the knife out of the head, blood spurting everywhere, and slashed wildly in front of him catching the figure on the forehead, leaving a deep bloody laceration, momentarily blinding the man/figure. A scream erupted from his foe and Taiga glanced backwards at the window. He had to get out of the house. He jumped back and scrabbled for the window sill, barely making a connection, but somehow managed to get a grip. He hoisted himself up with the small energy he had left, and smashed the glass of the window with the knife, and jumped out. Taiga sprinted out into the dark forest and left his house, and parents, for good. A blinding light pierced his eyes as he opened his eyelids, waking up. He shouted to his Mum for breakfast and then closed his eyes again. Abruptly, Taiga darted up discombobulated and shocked. He was sitting in grass and was holding a blood splattered knife in one hand and not in his house. All the memories from the previous night then hit him, a maelstrom of emotions and deaths, and Taiga started to cry. He remembered the deaths of his parents and the thieves. He realised that the thieves must have come in through another window, but why did they bother to steal from a poor lowly house like his? What did they really want? Over the days, Taiga kept theorising about the thieves and started to adapt to life in the forest. Using his knife, he hunted animals and roasted them on spitfires, and occasionally went into the town to steal money, food or water. There were also some freshwater ponds that he drank from. He was bad at stealing at first, but his skill rose and he soon was able to pickpocket people without them even knowing he was there. Taiga stole some black clothes for better camouflage at night and managed to keep most of his bad memories out of his head. On his 16 birthday, Taiga was still living in the woods, and decided to go into town for some newer clothes. Knife in pocket, he walked to the market and headed to towards the clothes store. Out of nowhere, a muscular man in brown clothing and a few other people walked onto the street. Taiga gasped. The muscular man had a long scar on his forehead and resembled the figure Taiga saw on the last night of his house. Anger erupted from his heart as the man walked past him. A queer thought occurred to Taiga. If he could kill him, he would be so happy and his father’s death would be avenged, but what good would it do. He pushed the thought aside, and just decided on confronting the man, surely the man couldn’t recognise him it had been 3 years! Taiga walked out of the woods and walked in front of the man. Taiga’s heart was beating against his ribcage, threatening to pop out, but he kept his cool. “Taiga, I know who you are.” Taiga froze. The man, who killed his father, was talking to him. “Killing me won’t do you any good.” The man placed his hand on my shoulder. Pure rage flowed out of me, and I lashed out at him but he was too quick. He grabbed my hands and blocked the feeble attack. “Come with me Taiga, you will get to know me and my friends, really well.” Then, the world went black. Taiga awoke with a headache. Everything was dark and Taiga felt drowsy. “Taiga,” a voice spoke up within the darkness. “I have some explaining to do. And, call me Father.” Taiga tensed, ready to leap out and attack, but he was stuck to a chair. A dim bulb flickered on and swayed in revolutions around his head. The man’s face appeared in the dark in front of Taiga and he started to talk. “Taiga, you have been living under the care of a person who is very bad. You’re father was a very bad man and he tried to steal you away from me. I am you’re real father.” Taiga shouted. “My father was great, until you murdered him.” “I know you won’t understand, but I’m going to brainwash you, so you can help me with my business. You will learn to treat me like you’re father and forget about you’re past.” “NO!” Taiga screamed. “You’re name is Taiga Eporslè and you are 16. You’re father is me, Orion Loperas and you will help me with my business. You will carry the knife you have for the rest of your life and protect me, and yourself with it. Forget about this meeting and start your new life in Elpida..... Now.” Taiga rose up out of his bed and went to put on his clothes. However, the clothes were not black, but brown like his father, Orion. He grabbed his knife and headed out of his small room, into the dining room, Where his father had set up breakfast. “Morning Dad!” said Taiga cheerfully. “Morning Taiga,” replied Orion.
