Though never very wealthy, the Oswell family always had food on the table and a warm place to sleep, and Tim is grateful for his upbringings. Timothy's grandfather Jerome, an experienced and rather well-known toymaker who crafted trinkets for the local children, and had tutored Tim in the art of woodworking from a young age. Although he wasn't a natural, Timothy was quite fascinated by the practice and learned quickly. He designed toys for his brothers and sister, and small games for his friends. Through stubborn and determined work, Tim was able to slowly master the craft and took over the shop when one day his grandfather peacefully passed in his sleep. Timothy took his newfound responsibility seriously and carried the family name as best he could. It brought him joy to make toys for the children of the city, and he worked diligently to provide for his family. In spite of this, Tim quickly grew bored of the tedious crafting day in and day out. One day, Isaac returned home from training with a rather peculiar story. He'd been given a letter addressed to a man by the name of Archabold Oswell by an old family friend who said she'd found it stashed away in a pile of dusty texts on a shelf. None of the Oswell family was aware of someone by that name, but upon opening the letter they found it was written in a strange language with the exception of a single word beautifully inscribed on the back; "Elpida". Although he was sceptical of the rumors of the neighboring land, Tim had always been curious about its becomings. After a long discussion about the letter, Timothy and Isaac determined to save up enough money for a round trip to Elpida. Between the spare change from the shop and the little money Isaac brought home from the army, the going was slow. But now, after several years of setting aside money, Tim and his brother have bid farewell to their parents and siblings, and finally set sail to explore the mysterious foreign city with high hopes. Timothy wields a beautifully crafted whittling knife left to him by is late grandfather. He keeps it at his side at all times to remind him of home and the fond memories it holds. He also keeps the strange letter tucked away in his jacket pocket along with a personal map of Elpida he develops in spare time.
